Click to get your Free Email Certificate (Digital IDs)
In order to receive encrypted email or send digitally signed email, you must have a digital certificate. If you get a digital certificate for your email, you cannot send someone encrypted email, but they can send you encrypted email. This is exactly backward from how any normal person expects it to work, but, luckily, email certificates are free.
Why is it backwards? It isn't really backwards. You could give the public, encoding part t...

The most common reason for this is that the email address on the mail client is not the same as the one in the certificate.
For instance, in Microsoft Outlook (not Express) if you configure the email address on the account to another@comodo.com but have the email certificate for another@comodogroup.com, Microsoft Outlook will not allow you to assign it as the email address is not the same, even if your server automatically forwards both emails to the same address.
There are two ways to se...
When you first receive your email certificate you will need to distribute the 'Public Key' to
those people who you want to send encrypted emails to you.
To do this send them an email and digitally sign it, this attaches the Public Key certificate to the email.
They must store your email address with the certificate in their address book.
After this they can then decide to encrypt each email that is sent to you by setting the 'Security Options'.
You can only encrypt emails to someone else using their email (Digital ID) certificate (public key).
And, to do this their certificate (Digital ID) must be stored in your address book.
To add the certificate to an address book in Outlook right-click on the email address and select 'Add to Outlook Contacts'.
Then save that entry.
The ones that can reply will already have your certificate (public key) stored in their address book.
To add the certificate to an address book in Outlook right-click on the email address and select 'Add to Outlook Contacts'.

Basics of Email encryption and Email signing/Export & Import, Import Certificate into Mozilla Thunderbird, enable the Certificate in Thunderbird.
Basics of Email encryption and Email signing:
The technique of S/MIME relies on complex algorithms that create the appropriate key pair:
The public key
The private key
This key pair needs to be available if any encryption or signing is being used. If one is missing, you won’t be able to use the corresponding key anymore.
The public key ...
Question: Why does the free email certificate say PERSONA NOT VALIDATED for the OU field?
Answer: This is something that we write on the certificate when we issue it to you. These free e-mail certificates do not go through a validation process to verify your identity. The only way to remove that message is to sign up for an E-PKI account and you have to use a privately held domain name instead of a freely available email address (GMail, Hotmail, Yahoo!, Lycos, etc.)
